faq fediverse
The fediverse describes an interconnected network of individual servers, each providing services (e.g., microblogging) and whose users can interact with users on any other federated server.
This concept - and the signup process - might seem daunting to users migrating from monolithic social media. Patience and kindness will be appreciated by people who might otherwise be discouraged from participating.
Infosec.Exchange is one of many such servers; it is a Mastodon instance, but there are other services in the fediverse besides Mastodon.
Mastodon runs on top of the ActivityPub protocol. The fediverse encompasses other protocols too.
